James Scott, born on the 30th of August 2000, is a Scottish footballer currently leading the line as a striker for St Mirren. Standing tall at 6ft 2in (1.88m) and weighing 13st 9lb (87kg), Scott has made quite a name for himself in Scottish football. The man in the number 14 jersey initially started his professional journey at Motherwell, joining the Scottish Premiership outfit as a trainee in October 2013.
Scott's professional debut for Motherwell wouldn't come until the 2017-2018 season, in which he made two appearances for the first team. His breakout into senior football was a building process that carried into the 2018-2019 season, where he featured in 12 matches and scored his first league goal. Come the 2019-2020 season, Scott had become a more regular fixture in the Motherwell forward line, making 22 appearances and netting three goals.
In January 2020, Scott crossed the border southwards to ply his trade at Hull City, a team competing in the English Football League (Championship). The transfer deal was reportedly worth around £1.5m. That same season, Scott was able to get some playing time, appearing seven times and even scoring a goal. Fast forward to the 2021-2022 season, and Scott could only muster a single appearance for Hull City.
Looking for more game time, Scott made the move back to Scotland, this time joining Hibernian on loan in August 2021. The loan move did him good, as he got more minutes under his belt, taking to the pitch 16 times for 'Hibs' and celebrating four goals. Following the end of his loan spell, he returned to Hull City in June 2022, although his playing time still remained limited.
In January 2023, Scott switched England divisions, moving to Exeter City in the League One. However, he wasn't there for long, as in January 2024, he went back to the Scottish Premiership, joining St Mirren on loan. Scott's time as a Saint has been reasonably successful so far, playing 11 matches and scoring on one occasion in the 2023-2024 season. By the start of the current 2024-2025 season, he's already featured in 13 matches as a permanent member of the St Mirren ranks after the club finalised a full transfer in July 2024.
Scott has also represented St Mirren in various competitions: making one substitute appearance in the League Cup, another in the Scottish Cup and playing four times from the bench in the Conference League Qualifiers. His unique journey through the leagues makes him a seasoned professional at the age of 24.
