Hyeon-gyu Oh, the promising striker from the Republic of Korea, was born on 12 April 2001, making him 24 years old at current. Standing tall at an impressive height of 6ft (1.85m) and tipping the scales at 13 stone (83kg), he was destined for the physically demanding role of a forward in the beautiful game. Currently, he plies his trade for Genk and dons the number 9 jersey.
His talent on the pitch has attracted attention from those in the know. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at around £3m.Oh began his professional career at Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the K League 2 in Korea Republic, joining them in January 2014. In his debut season of 2019, Oh made 11 appearances for the first team in league matches. By the 2022 season, he had taken significant strides with 36 appearances and 13 goals to his name in league matches.
In May 2020, he took a temporary detour from Suwon to join Gimcheon Sangmu in the K League 1 on loan. During his tenure, Oh notched up 33 first team appearances and a commendable five goals in league matches in the 2021 season. However, his stay in Gimcheon Sangmu was short-lived, and he returned to Suwon in November 2021 after his loan term ended.
January 2023 saw a significant turn in Oh's career as he was transferred from the K League to Scottish Premiership side, Celtic, for a fee of around £2.5m. In his first season (2022 - 2023) with Celtic, Oh made his mark. He made 16 first team appearances and scored six goals in league matches. His performance improved further in the following season (2023 - 2024) with 20 first team appearances and five goals.
As fate would have it, his tenure with Celtic lasted only two seasons. In July 2024, in an interesting move, Oh transferred from Celtic to Genk in the Pro League in Belgium for a fee of around £2.3m. His time at Genk witnessed him scoring seven goals from 27 first team appearances in league matches in the 2024 - 2025 season. His current season with Genk (2025 - 2026) sees him having made four first team appearances with one goal.
Oh's participation in Pro League Play-Offs 2024 - 2025 and Europa League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 added more credibility to his credentials. In the Pro League Play-Offs, he scored two goals from one start and eight substitute appearances. In the Europa League Qualifiers, he managed to score one goal from two starts.
