Guilherme Barbosa, a Portuguese football player, came into the world on a serene summer day, the 8th of August in 2005. Now aged 20, he has indeed begun to make his mark on the world of football. The world has seen him grow and flourish into a midfielder, and provide backing to his team in a pivotal defensive role. His preferential position on the field has been described as central defensive midfielder, an apt role for a player of his vigour and fortitude.
Currently playing his football at Sporting Clube de Braga, he carries a symbol of his identity and stature — the number 54 jersey, which drapes over his athletic physique. His stature of 5ft 10in (1.78m) may not make him the tallest on the field, but the strength in his 70kg (11st) frame helps him to fend off opponents trying to weave their footballing magic.
It should be noted that Barbosa’s placement in the midfielder role, while primarily tilting towards the defensive end, does not mean he can’t venture forwards to partake in the attacking spectacle, and thereby providing some versatility for his Braga outfit. Much like the lads at Celtic Park did back in the day, but that is all it is now- merely history as we continue to marvel at the rise of this Portuguese dynamo.
