Foraging on the windswept grounds of English and Scottish football, enter stage left, Glenn Middleton. This maverick of a forward, born 1st January 2000, in that turbulent, footie-crazed land of England, currently plies trade at Dundee United, situated in the comparatively calmer clime of Scotland. Standing at 1.76m (5ft 9in), he's not exactly a towering presence, and the scales barely tremble under his 68kg (10st 9lb), but don't let that fool you; he's more than capable of dancing past hapless defenders. And, if a jersey could make the man, number 15 would be his moniker.
As of this moment, Transfermarkt pins his market value at a rather modest €350k, or £296k for those of us who prefer our currencies un-Euroed. Dundee has his contract until 31 May 2025, after which the lad is anyone's guess.
Now, let's traipse through the archives of his transfer history, shall we? Back in July 2012, a much younger, probably bolder, Middleton signed greenhorn papers with Norwich City. A step, one supposes, to the grander things that lay ahead. Six gruelling years later, in January 2018, he ditched the canaries for the bears, moving North to Rangers. One might recall his debut season (2018 - 2019) at the Ibrox where he made 15 appearances and hit the back of the net twice.
But Middleton, ever the restless soul, was off on a Scottish sojourn in August 2019, spending a loan season with Hibernian, which for the record, chalked up six appearances. Alas, the return to Rangers was brief before he sauntered southwards for a dalliance with Bradford City in January 2020's drab winter.
After the English interlude, he was back at Rangers, only to be loaned out to St Johnstone in January 2021. Notably, his two seasons there yielded 37 appearances and three goals. Come July 2022, he was off again, this time making his nest at Dundee United, for a fee apparently as elusive as an honest politician. Since then, Middleton has racked up 80 appearances and bagged seven goals across three seasons. But who's counting, right?
