So, allow me to delve into a wee bit about Finlay Robertson, our plucky 23-year-old lad from Scotland. Born on the twelfth day of the chilly November of 2002, wee Finlay has taken up a line of work that suits his ability to dart about; the demanding role of a central midfielder, prancing around in the number 10 jersey for Dundee.
The lad is a bit on the diminutive side - standing at a towering 5ft 7in (that's 1.71m in the more civilised parts of the world), and dragging 70kg of body mass onto the turf (or 11st if you prefer those old-school, tea-with-crumpets kind of measurements). This blend of heart-warming Scottish robustness and Aye-Right compactness should endear him to all - except those having to wedge against him in midfield.
The eagle-eyed folks over at Transfermarkt reckon our Robertson boy has a market value of around a whopping £170k. Finlay must be choking on his square sausage sandwich over that little factoid.
Prior to honing his craft at Dundee in July 2017, Finlay was presumably somewhere else - the details elude me currently. It seems he worked his charm on the coaching staff, as they immediately tossed him into the deep end of first team league matches, albeit on only one occasion in his 2018 - 2019 debut season. There was faint improvement in his 2021 - 2022 season, with two league appearances, and a subsequent eight in the 2022 - 2023 season. Soon enough, in season 2023 - 2024, Robertson managed to find himself on the pitch 13 times in league matches. Now the lad's a hardy perennial, with 29 and 11 appearances in the 2024 - 2025 and current 2025 - 2026 seasons respectively. Upon this mighty mountain of Highland heather (also known as the Scottish Premiership), the lad has scored the grand tally of one goal.
Our very own globe-trotting rover made a daring journey from Dundee to Cove Rangers on loan in September 2021, only for the prodigal son to return by January 2022. It feels like yesterday when many seasoned fans remembered the young lad mooching about on the green fields of Dundee. You've got to be popular to pull off the old, 'Go out on loan and then return just because you can' routine. Or potentially, you can just be Finlay Robertson.
