The unassuming yet talented Ewan Henderson, born on March 27, 2000, is a Scottish midfielder who currently lines up for Belgian side Beerschot. Standing at 6 feet tall (1.83m), he's at the right height to command the centre of the park, and at 10st 9lb (68kg), he possesses the necessary physicality to hold his own in the middle. The number 8 jersey he adorns while patrolling the pitch is symbolic of his preferred role - central attacking midfielder.
Henderson's journey in professional football kicked off in July 2016 when he joined Celtic as a trainee. Over a period of about five years with the Hoops, he made a handful of first team appearances. In the 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2020-2021 seasons at Celtic, he had a total of 8 league outings. This amount of game time in a club of Celtic's stature evidences a certain level of trust and promise in Henderson's abilities.
A spell away from Celtic saw the midfielder spend the 2019 season on loan at fellow Scottish Premiership club Ross County, making 9 first team appearances in his time there. His return to Celtic marked the beginning of another stint of sporadic appearances for the Hoops but Henderson was undeterred.
In March 2021, Henderson once again found himself on loan, this time to Championship side Dunfermline Athletic. Not long after his return to Celtic, he was on the move again, this time on loan to Hibernian in the Premiership where he enjoyed a considerably more fruitful period. In his first season with Hibs in 2021 - 2022, he made 16 league appearances and bagged a goal. His second season at Easter Road saw him highly involved, featuring in 30 league matches and scoring once. His third and final season saw him make a single league appearance.
In July 2022, the decision was made to permanently transfer Henderson from Celtic to Hibernian, marking both the end of his journey with his boyhood club and the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
A brief stint in Belgium with Oostende on loan from Hibernian in 2023 did not prove particularly notable for Henderson and he soon found his way back to Scotland. After another season with Hibernian, he was on the move again. This journey marked a notable milestone in Henderson's career as he left his homeland for good, joining Belgian Pro League side Beerschot in July 2024 for a modest fee of around £150k.
Henderson had a successful maiden season in Belgium's top flight, featuring in 25 league matches and scoring twice. He furthermore got his taste of the play-offs, in which he managed to hit the back of the net once in six starts. As young as he is, there is no doubt that Ewan Henderson has the potential to achieve greater heights in his footballing career.
