A temporary spell at West Bromwich Albion in England's Championship in the 2018 - 2019 season marked a high point in Gayle's career as he scored 23 goals from 39 appearances. Upon returning to Newcastle United, his goal return dropped a bit over the following four seasons.
A move to Stoke City in England's Championship came in July 2022, his goal scoring dwindling a bit over the next two seasons with three from 45 appearances. In February 2024, he was on the move again, this time to Derby County in the Championship. However, he didn't last long there and found himself moving up north in September 2024, joining Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. As it stands in the 2024 - 2025 season, Gayle has made 17 appearances and scored four goals for his current side.
