Diego Laxalt was born on the 7th of February, 1993, in Uruguay. He has spent most of his sporting career as a determined defender, playing primarily in the position of left back. With his height of 5ft 10in (1.78m) and weight of 10st 5lb (66kg), Laxalt's formidable presence on the pitch showcased his inherent football abilities, in particular his proficiency in defence.
His professional football journey began in July 2013, when Laxalt transferred from Defensor Sporting in the Primera División in Uruguay to Inter Milan in the Serie A in Italy. The transaction was valued at an approximate £2m. The same year, he was loaned to Bologna, also in Serie A. Laxalt made 15 first team appearances in his debut season (2013-2014) at Bologna, nabbing two goals for the team in league matches.
In subsequent years, Laxalt was transferred on loan to several Italian teams, including Empoli in Serie B in August 2014, and Genoa in Serie A in January 2015. Between 2014 and 2018 during his time with Genoa, he had consistent first team play time, with appearances ranging from eight to 36 per season and scoring several impressive goals.
Inter Milan eventually sold Laxalt to Genoa in July 2016 for a fee of around £3.4m. This hearty transfer was followed two years later by a move to AC Milan in August 2018, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed. During this time, Laxalt's first team appearances varied dramatically, perhaps a reflection of the flux within the team during that period.
Laxalt continued his Italian sojourn with a loan transfer to Torino in August 2019, following which was his significant shift in October 2020 to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, again on loan from AC Milan. His two-year stay in trot at Celtic led to him making 17 first team appearances and a solitary goal finding the back of the net.
Guarding the Celtic defence nearly an entire season, Laxalt mutually ended his loan spell and made a permanent transfer in July 2021 to Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Premier League for an approximate fee of £3.2m. He continued to actively participate in various seasons with Dynamo, contributing with numerous valuable appearances.
As of August 2025, Laxalt has been transferred from Dynamo Moscow, reflecting the ongoing nature of his football career. With each step, he certainly carries with him the memorable experiences and lessons learned from his time at Celtic, manifesting them in his talented performances on the field.
