Declan Gallagher, born on the 13th of February, 1991, is a Scottish born football defender who primarily takes up a central defensive role for Dundee United. Gallagher had spent the early years of his career at Celtic, where he honed his skills and developed into a promising young defender. In October 2010, he was loaned out to Stranraer, a Scottish League Two club, playing first team football regularly with 26 appearances and scoring three league goals in his debut season of 2010-2011.
In August 2011, he made his exit from Celtic to Clyde, another team in the Scottish League Two. That season, Gallagher maintained his steady performance, clocking in 25 first team appearances and netting two goals. A year later, he transferred to Dundee in the Scottish Premiership, where he quickly became a mainstay in the team's line-up, earning 24 league appearances in his first season. His performance continued to improve, as he racked up a total of 36 first team appearances and scored four goals in the following season.
Gallagher's career took another turn in July 2014 when he moved to Livingston in the Scottish Championship. In the 2014-2015 to 2018-2019 periods, Gallagher featured regularly in the Livingston’s first team, and was involved in a high number of matches every season, scoring several league goals along the way.
Following a brief departure, Gallagher rejoined Livingston in January 2017, enjoying a similar level of involvement and contribution for the team as before.
In July 2019, Gallagher transferred to Motherwell, where he continued performing at a high level, with plenty of first team action and a handful of league goals to his name in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons.
Thereafter, in July 2021, he signed for Aberdeen, and then made another move to St Mirren the following year, continuing his trend of regular first team appearances and maintaining his goal scoring form.
Gallagher finally landed at Dundee United in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee. So far, he has managed to maintain his form with steady first team appearances and continues to play an integral role in the team's defense in the ongoing 2024-2025 season. He also played in the League Cup 2024-2025 for Dundee United, starting five matches and scoring a goal, and participated in the Scottish Cup 2024-2025 with one start.
