David Turnbull, born in Scotland on 10 July 1999 (age 25) is a midfielder who generally takes up the role of a central midfielder for Cardiff City. He stands 6ft tall (equivalent to 1.85m) and tips the scales at 12st 1lb (around 77kg). He dons the number 14 jersey. His footballing journey began in July 2009, when he joined Motherwell as a trainee, within Scotland's Premiership. His inaugural 2017-2018 season with Motherwell saw him make two first team appearances in league matches.
In the succeeding season, 2018-2019, with Motherwell, he impressively netted 15 goals from his 30 first team league matches. His impact, however, fizzled out in the following two seasons wherein he made only seven appearances across both seasons, scoring one goal in the 2020-2021 season.
In August 2020, Turnbull made a significant move by transferring from Motherwell to the renowned Celtic FC, a deal which cost Celtic around £3m. His tenure with Celtic saw him linking his boots for the club in multiple seasons. His first season, 2020-2021, as a Hoops player, was fairly successful, with him scoring eight goals from 31 league appearances.
His second season (2021-2022) and third season (2022-2023) with Celtic followed a similar path, with him making 53 league appearances and registering ten goals across both seasons. His 2023-2024 stint at Celtic, although marked by a reduced number of appearances (16), did see him score on seven occasions.
In a surprising move in February 2024, Turnbull waved goodbye to Celtic and moved south of the Scottish border to join Cardiff City in the English Championship. The transfer fee was a moderate sum of £2m. That season, he appeared in 17 league matches for his new Club.
In the current 2024-2025 season, Turnbull continues to ply his trade at Cardiff City, having made 12 first team appearances and scored one goal in league matches so far. His career trajectory from Motherwell to Celtic, and now Cardiff City, suggests an interesting journey for this Scottish midfielder, one that admirers of his craft shall continue to observe with interest.
