Dave Richards, born on 31 December 1993 in Wales, is currently the designated safe pair of hands for Dundee United. Standing at a formidable 6ft 2in (1.9m) and tipping the scales at 12st 12lb (82kg), he is clearly not one to be easily pushed around, be it on or off the pitch. And it’s no wonder that he dons the 25 jersey with such aplomb.
Richards' estimated market worth of £64k, as reported by Transfermarkt, perhaps doesn’t do justice to his skills beneath the crossbars. As of today, Richards has 1 year and 5 months left to serve on his contract with Dundee, which is due to prematurely crack open a champagne on 30th June, 2026.
In the drear grey dawn of January 2013, Richards veered away from his traditional Welsh fare to join Bristol City in the Championship. His sojourn there lasted until July 2015, when he once again packed his bags and found himself staring into the eerie silence of Crewe Alexandra's stadium in England’s League Two. It wasn't until the 2017-2018 season that Richards could finally leave his mark on a team sheet, securing ten first-team appearances. Seemingly a fan of winter, the 2022-2023 season only saw him rising from the bench for first-team glory seven times.
While summer might not have been his season of choice, August 2023 saw Richards suddenly hoofing it up north to join St Johnstone in the Premiership on loan. By the following summer of 2024, he had completely severed ties with Crewe Alexandra and jumped feet first into Dundee United, a Premiership team in Scotland.
Unfortunately, the current season of 2024-2025 at Dundee has not yet offered him a chance to shine in league matches. That said, he did vie for glory in the League Cup 2024-2025 with an impressive two starts to his name. To paraphrase old cliches, in every gloaming Scottish sky, there’s always a silver trophy.
