Daniel Barlaser, an English midfielder born on 18 January 1997, now aged 28, strides through the battlefield that is competitive football in his number 22 jersey. The 6ft (1.84m) tall defensive midfielder with a weight of 10st 3lb (65kg), currently plies his trade at Hibernian where he performs his role with rigour and vigour. His market value stands at a sturdy £1.7m, accordant to the statistics and data hub that is Transfermarkt.
His journey through the realm of the beautiful game began in July 2014, as a fledgeling trainee at Newcastle United in the esteemed Premier League. A couple of years later, in January 2018, Barlaser took to pastures new on loan, joining Crewe Alexandra in the heartland of league two, making a solitary first-team appearance during his brief spell.
More loan periods followed, as is often the way for young talents. In August 2018, he joined Accrington Stanley, returning to the well-acquainted territory of League Two. By July 2019, another move was in the offing – Barlaser switched to Rotherham United in League One. His tenure at Rotherham was fruitful, with 33 appearances and three goals in the 2020 - 2021 season, and 28 appearances and an additional two goals in the following 2022 - 2023 season.
Having shown his mettle at Rotherham, Barlaser made the permanent move from Newcastle to Rotherham in October 2020 for an undisclosed fee, replicating his impressive performances in the previous seasons. However, it wasn’t long before another move called, and in January 2023, Middlesbrough in the championship procured his services for another undisclosed fee. Over subsequent seasons at Middlesbrough, Barlaser became a regular fixture, making 11, 33 and 23 appearances over the next three seasons, even chipping in with a goal during his final season.
Returning to Scotland, albeit not the Parkhead terraces of Celtic that are my customary purview, Barlaser joined Hibernian on loan in September 2025. Thus far in the current 2025 - 2026 season, he's made three appearances for the Easter Road side and has even had a taste of cup competition with a substitute appearance in the League Cup.
