Removed from Doncaster Rovers entirely by July 2016, Main made his way to Portsmouth in the Championship, maintaining a reserved contribution over two seasons.
January 2018 introduced Scottish Premiership football to Main's career as he joined Motherwell. His two-season stint had its glorious moments, with the striker delivering a fair share of goals.
Departing Motherwell in July 2019, Main joined Aberdeen, where he again regularly found the net over two seasons. By February 2021, he was back in England with Shrewsbury Town.
July 2021 saw Main return to Scotland, transferred to St Mirren in the Premiership. Here, he significantly contributed to the team effort, scoring nine goals in a single season.
