Ah, let me bring the curtain up on the life of Craig Halkett, island dweller by birth, born in the fair land of Scotland on 29th May 1995 - which makes the chap a spry 30. This particular lad is a meat and potatoes type of footballer, making a living primarily as a central defender for Hearts. With a height of 6ft (or 1.83m, if you prefer continental notions), and tipping the scales аt 13st 9lb (or if you linguistically feel more at ease in kilograms, 87), he is quite the presence on the pitch. When it comes to donning the jersey, he's in the number 4 camp.
Now, one might ask how much one can buy such a player for? And good old Transfermarkt tells us it's around £170k (converted from €200,000, naturally). You'll find the link to their caffeine-induced valuations here. His contract with Hearts is set to expire come to the 31st of May 2026, which might prompt a change of heart or club, depending.
Backtracking to July 2012, Halkett embarked on life at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership. A journey not filled with potent amazement, but a journey nonetheless. Then, in September 2014, he ventured forth to Clyde in League Two, on loan, you see. A brief debut season saw him make a total of 10 league appearances., a numbers man would be horrified, but there you have it.
Moving on to October 2015, he exchanged the distinguishment of the Premiership, for the less glitzy, on-loan charm of Berwick Rangers in the Lowland League. That season, he swept a grand total of four league appearances under his belt, which must have been met with roaring indifference.
Now hold onto your hats, in January 2016, his sea-legged exploration of Scotland's football scene led him to Livingston in the Premiership. He kept the statisticians at bay, turning out on 15 occasions and further perked interest when he knocked in one goal too. Subsequent seasons saw an upswing in appearances, and thus goals, with a tally of 33 and 20 appearances with single and six goals in season 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 respectively. Licensed-enthusiasm grabbed hold of Halkett in the 2018-2019 season, as his role in 34 league matches yielded seven goals.
As the summer sun bathed Scotland in July 2019, Halkett moved onwards and sideways to Hearts. Seasons passed with him chalking up a smattering of appearances and an occasional goal. The current season of 2025-2026 sees him with seven first-team appearances and two league goals to his name. Not the stuff of legends, but there's still time.
On a final note, our Mr Halkett did take to the field during the League Cup 2025-2026 and Scottish Cup 2024-2025 for Hearts, scoring some goals and punching his timecard for a few starts and substitute appearances. Would it be a stretch to say captain fantastic? Well, perhaps, but the chap has certainly made the best of his rather peripatetic career.
