Oh, Coll Donaldson. The very epitome of the phrase 'journeyman footballer'. Born on that fateful day, 9th of April 1995, in the glorious footballing nation of Scotland, Donaldson now finds himself plying his trade as a central defender at, of all places, Falkirk. Understandably, standing tall at 1.88m (6ft 2in) and lugging around a weight of 82kg (12st 12lb), he's been handed the mighty responsibility of donning the number 6 jersey, which in many a cultured footballing mind, is akin to being bestowed with the keys to the defence.
Given his talent (or the intriguing lack thereof), it is hardly a surprise that Donaldson's current market value hovers around a paltry sum of £80k, a valuation bestowed upon by Transfermarkt. One can only deduce that Transfermarkt has indeed cracked the enigma that is Coll Donaldson.
In July 2012, young Donaldson took his first trembling steps in the professional football arena, signing with Livingston. During his debut season 2012-2013, he graced the pitch a total of five times, clearly not overtaxing himself. In his second season, he actually managed to find the net once in 19 matches, a feat worthy of high praise in certain, rather low standards.
In January 2014, Donaldson demonstrated his skills to such an extent that Queens Park Rangers couldn't resist carting him south to the Championship, by parting with £150k, possibly one of the greatest heists of the modern footballing era. He immediately endeared himself to the QPR faithful by making a solitary appearance that season.
Donaldson, in his infinite wisdom, then chose to return to Scotland, joining Dundee United in July 2015. Here, he established his consistency by featuring 18 times in season 2015 - 2016 and 14 times in 2016 - 2017. He then transplanted himself to Inverness CT, where he continued his trend of middling performances.
In what can only be described as a masterstroke, he then took his talents (if you will) to Ross County in January 2020, followed by a loan move to Dunfermline Athletic in January 2022, completing the customary round trip back to Ross County later that year.
Undeterred by his unspectacular exploits thus far, Donaldson then, in an almost charitable move, decided to bolster the ranks of Falkirk in the Premiership in July 2022 — perhaps under the impression that they could really do with his expertise. As we find ourselves in the current season of 2025 - 2026, he has already made a thunderous impact, taking the park once in league matches. Truly, one can only wonder what heights Donaldson will achieve in the illustrious world of football.
