Here we are, treated with another picturesque tale about the hoick and tumble of footballing life. Graciously meet Cedric Itten, Switzerland born and bred, who came into the world on the 27th of December in 1996. Now aged 28, he's somehow made a career from running after a ball, specifically at the position of a striker. Currently, he does the running for Young Boys Bern.
Noble Cedric stands 6ft 2in tall (1.9m for those of the metric persuasion) and tips the scales at 12st 10lb (or 81kg). For some unknown reason, people seem to care a great deal that he gambols about in the number 9 jersey.
If we're to believe Transfermarkt, the lad's market value is around £1.6m, but who can put a price on a man bouncing a ball on his foot really. His contract with Young Boys Bern is apparently due to expire on 30 June 2027, assuming the world hasn't come to an end by then.
Now let's tread water in the riveting pool of his career history. Itten started his training with Basel in the Swiss Super League in July 2012. He gallantly made 11 appearances, scored one goal in the 2015 - 2016 season and later scored another two goals in the 2017 - 2018 season. Then, he felt it necessary to transfer to Luzern for a short stint of one year on loan from July 2016. He had another modest performing season, making 28 appearances and scoring only three goals in the 2016 - 2017 season before returning to Basel.
Not satisfied with his constant relocation, young Cedric continued his journeyman-like venture by transferring to St. Gallen, still in the Swiss Super League, first on loan in January 2018 and later on a permanent basis for an amount deemed too classified to disclose. During his time there, he managed to display a sudden surge of form, scoring 19 goals in 34 appearances in the 2019 - 2020 season.
Perhaps dizzy from the heights of his goal scoring exploits, his journey took a bizarre twist when he switched from the Swiss league for the wild highlands of Scotland. Itten transferred to Rangers in August 2020, with £2.5m changing hands. His performance during his time at Rangers was anything but spectacular; in his first season (2020 - 2021), he made 27 appearances and scored a paltry four goals in league matches.
Regretfully for football history, Cedric once again packed his boots and shipped himself off to Greuther Furth in Germany's 2. Bundesliga for a season-long loan. His stint at Greuther managed to yield 12 appearances and two goals in the 2021 - 2022 season.
Predictably, he re-emerged in the gloomy Scottish weather with Rangers for a very short while. And then - you guessed it - he transported himself back to the Swiss league, joining Young Boys Bern for £1.6m in July 2022. His recent seasons, namely 2022 - 2023 to 2024 - 2025, have somewhat lived up to the expectations with statistics of 31 appearances and 19 goals for the first, 30 appearances and 10 goals for the second, and 17 appearances with four goals thus far for the ongoing one.
One might say the lad's a bit of a globe-trotter, having danced on the European stage in the 2023 - 2024 Champions League and Europa League, and even the 2024 - 2025 Champions League qualifiers for the Young Boys. How delightful for him.
