Born on 1 June 1995 in Sweden, Carl Starfelt is a seasoned defender currently at the forefront of Celta Vigo's defence. Standing at 6ft (1.85m) and tipping the scales at 12st 8lb (80kg), he dons the number 2 jersey. Aside from his club responsibilities, Starfelt carries his weight representing the Swedish national team too.
Starfelt’s professional career took off in January 2014 when he joined IF Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan, Sweden's top-tier league. His debut season saw him take part in 20 first-team conferences, followed by another 16 appearances in the subsequent season. The defender finished his tenure at IF Brommapojkarna having made 15 more appearances in his final season, registering his first competitive goal.
In January 2018, Starfelt transitioned to another Allsvenskan outfit, IFK Gothenburg. Here, he established himself as a consistent feature of the squad with 30 first team appearances in his first season. The tally decreased marginally in the next term, with Starfelt making 14 appearances and netting one goal.
July 2019 marked a significant phase in his career when Starfelt received a call from Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan, securing the switch for a fee around £900k. His stint in Russia started slow with only 10 appearances in the first season. However, Starfelt found his stride in the following season, taking to the field 29 times and scoring three goals.
In July 2021, the call of the Scottish Premiership team Celtic proved irresistible, with the Hoops securing his signature for a fee of around £4m. Starfelt completed his first season donning the famous green and white stripes, making 34 appearances. He continued his appearances in the 2022-2023 season, putting up a number of 28 appearances and adding three goals to his name. Starfelt only managed to make one appearance in the following 2023-2024 season for Celtic.
August 2023 brought an end to his Scottish adventure as he departed for LaLiga's Celta Vigo in Spain. The terms remain undisclosed, but he quickly adapted to the Spanish league making 27 first-team appearances and registering one goal in his debut season. He maintains a consistent performance in the current season with the same number of appearances and another goal to his credit.
The Swedish defender has had experiences in various competitions such as Copa del Rey 2024-2025 with two starts for Celta Vigo, Euro Qualifiers 2022-2024 with an appearance as a substitute for Sweden, and the Nations League 2024-2025, where he made one start and two substitute appearances for his national team.
