Brandon Mechele, born on 28 January 1993 (age 33), is a Belgian central defender whose career has been shaped almost entirely at Club Brugge. A commanding 6ft 3in (1.90m), he wears squad number 44 and has become a durable presence rather than a passing name on their team sheet.
There was an early loan spell away from Brugge, the sort of move that tends to sort out young defenders quickly enough. After that, Mechele settled back into the club that has framed his senior career. Across 13 seasons he has made 321 league appearances for Club Brugge, scoring 21 league goals.
His best league return came in 2023–24, when he scored four times in 30 appearances. In 2026–27 he remains firmly involved, with 30 appearances and three goals across all competitions for Club Brugge, including eight league appearances and two league goals. That is not ceremonial usage; he is still part of the working side.
Mechele has also been involved with Belgium this season, with appearances across World Cup, European qualifying and Nations League fixtures. His current market value is around £2.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career is a straightforward one: a Belgian defender developed around Club Brugge, briefly shaped by a loan spell, and still relevant there well into his thirties.
