Benjamin Siegrist, born on 31 January 1992 in Switzerland, is the current goalkeeper for Rapid Bucureşti. Standing at an impressive 6ft 5in (1.96m) and boasting a weight of 15st 3lb (97kg), Siegrist has made his mark in football, both domestically and internationally, having represented the Swiss national team.
His journey to the top began in the Premier League in 2012, when he was signed by Aston Villa from a young age. The young keeper didn't have an opportunity to make significant contributions, and subsequently had loan spells at Burton Albion and Cambridge United in 2013 and 2014 respectively. At Cambridge United, he graced the pitch thrice during the 2013-2014 season, whereas he only had a single outing during his time at Wycombe Wanderers for the 2015-2016 season.
In a move away from the Premier League, Siegrist transferred to FC Vaduz in the Swiss Challenge League in 2016 for an undisclosed fee. Over the course of two seasons, he had 32 appearances.
In 2018, he made his transfer to the Scottish Premiership, joining Dundee United. With a steady number of performances, with 32 and 34 outings in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons respectively, Siegrist was able to display his keeping skills on a regular basis.
His commendable performance at Dundee United paved the way for his next move into the Scottish football realm. In 2022, he was signed by Celtic, joining the former European Champions. Over the course of two seasons, Siegrist proved instrumental in multiple victories for Celtic. Time and again, his unyielding presence in the goal and firm handling of the most robust offences made him a crucial player in the team's success. Post his successful stint with Celtic, he transferred to Rapid Bucureşti in the Romanian Liga I in 2024 for an undisclosed fee and has already made 13 first team appearances in league matches for the current 2024-2025 season.
Today, building on the experience and skills honed over the years, in different leagues and under varying playing conditions, Siegrist continues to make significant contributions to his current team Rapid Bucureşti.
