Barry Douglas, a stalwart defender mostly employed as a left back, was born on 4 September 1989 in Scotland. Douglas stands 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall and weighs 10st 1lb (64kg).
In July 2008, the gritty Scot started his professional career joining Queen's Park in the Scottish Championship. His debut season (2008-2009) saw him participate in 31 league matches, netting three times. The following season he maintained his steady progress, scoring eight goals in 35 appearances.
Barry Douglas' consistent performance did not go unnoticed. In July 2010, he embarked on a new venture, transferring to Dundee United, a club in the Scottish Premiership. His tenure with Dundee United lasted three seasons from 2010 to 2013, playing 61 matches and scoring four goals.
In July 2013, taking an unusual path for a Scottish player, Douglas sought pastures new in Poland's top football league, the Ekstraklasa, transferring to Lech Poznan. His spell at Lech Poznan was marked by 106 league appearances in both his initial three-season stint and later return in the 2021-2024 period, scoring four goals.
Briefly, Douglas switched to Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig in January 2016 on a transfer sum of around £210k. A fairly uneventful stay at Konyaspor involved 34 league appearances over two seasons.
In July 2017, English football came calling with Wolverhampton Wanderers securing the Scot for a rumoured £1m fee. His lone season at Wolves in 2017-2018 was impressive, with five goals coming from 39 appearances.
One year later, Leeds United shelled out £3m for Douglas, a hefty fee for a defender in the English Premier League. His two-season stint at Leeds saw him make 42 league appearances.
Douglas subsequently moved to Blackburn Rovers on a loan transfer in October 2020, and managed to secure 30 first team appearances in the 2020-2021 season. After his Blackburn loan, Douglas returned to Lech Poznan in July 2021.
In 2024, following the conclusion of his second spell at Lech Poznan, Douglas had a brief stint in an undisclosed league before returning to his homeland in October to join St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship for the 2024-2025 season, during which he made 16 first team appearances. The details of his transfer out of St Johnstone in June 2025 remain undisclosed.
