Barry Coffey, born on 27 March 2001 in the Republic of Ireland, is a practiced midfielder currently playing for Cork City. Standing at 5ft 9in (1.76m) and 10st 5lb (66kg), he's best suited to the central attacking position in the midfield.
Coffey started off his career by joining as a trainee in Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in July 2017. For a period of more than two years, Coffey was a part of the Celtic team, soaking up the wisdom of the many experienced players in the squad. His time at Celtic provided him the perfect canvas to sharpen his footballing skills, particularly in central midfield.
In a significant twist to his career, whilst still technically signed to Celtic, Coffey moved to Cliftonville in the Northern Ireland Premiership on loan in January 2021, before subsequently being loaned to Cork City in the Republic of Ireland's First Division in July 2021.
It was at Cork City where Coffey managed to carve out a more substantial role for himself on the field. In his debut season in 2023, he showcased his burgeoning talent with 28 first team appearances and a single goal in league matches. Proving that he was no flash in the pan, Coffey followed up with an even more impressive 2024 season at Cork City, bagging eight goals from 27 first team appearances in league matches.
Additional testament to his importance at Cork City is evidenced by his participation in the LOI Premier Play Offs 2023, where he was granted a starting position. It is these combined efforts which solidify Coffey as a player of considerable promise and potential in the ranks of Irish football.
