Forged in Australia, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos -- born on the 9th of April in 1999 and now aged 25 -- currently pertains his footballing services to Motherwell where he dutifully executes his duties as a forward, primarily occupying the striker position. The bloke stands a solid 6 feet tall (1.84 metres, if you're into that sort of thing) and weighs in at a healthy 13 stone 3 pounds (or 84 kilograms). You'll easily pick him out in a crowd wearing his favoured number 14 jersey.
As ever in this mercenary world of football, his abilities come with a price. According to the folks at Transfermarkt, his current market value amounts to a modest £340k (from €400k). Not exactly loose change, is it.
Stamatelopoulos embarked on his footballing journey a few years back in 2017, signing on the dotted line for Adelaide United, a little squad in the Australian A-League. Despite his tender age, he showcased some talent in his debut season, clocking up seven appearances and even getting a goal to his name. The following year saw similar success, with another seven appearances and an impressive three goals to add to his tally.
Time came in July of 2019 for Apostolos to pack his bags and head to Western United where he gained a respectable ten first team appearances during the 2019-20 season. This was followed by another hop in January 2021 to Newcastle United Jets where his form had noticeable ascents -- 12 appearances and 3 goals in his first season, followed by a whopping 25 appearances and impressive 17 goals in the 2023-24 season.
The lure of European football called in August 2021 and he made his way to Rodos in the Greek Football League, then to PAS Giannina a year later where he notched 17 first team appearances in the 2022-23 season. Another year, another move, saw him return to Australia and the Newcastle United Jets where a repeat of his previous form saw him score three goals in 12 appearances in the 2020-21 season and then return to might, amassing a further 25 appearances and 17 goals in his final season.
Apostolos then crossed to these hallowed Scottish lands in July 2024, becoming part of the Clan Motherwell in exchange for around £260k. He's fitting in quite nicely in our tartan backdrop, already making his mark with 16 first-team appearances and invoking cheer across the terraces with five league goals in the current 2024-25 season. Looks like Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is a lad to keep watch on – his journey's far from over and we can't wait to see where this bonnie path leads.
