Andreas Skov Olsen, a Danish lad sporting a somewhat unremarkable name, took his first rasping breath of Nordic air on the 29th of December, 1999. Bred for football, Skov Olsen stands at an imposing 6 feet 1 inch (1.87m) tall, with the ballast of 11st 11lb (75kg) to keep the wind from whisking him off the pitch. He primarily plies his trade as a right winger for the Rangers, a role he's somehow wedged himself into, donning the number 7 jersey.
The lad's market value currently hiccups around a hefty lump of £15.2m, or so we're told by Transfermarkt. His contract with the Rangers, like an unloved library book, has only 6 months left before it's overdue. Unless renewed, freedom nods at him from the calendar square of the 30th of June, 2026.
Never one to stay too comfy in his footballing slippers, Skov Olsen traded the tranquility of Denmark's Superliga, where he was quite the whiz kid at FC Nordsjælland, for the catenaccio-laden aisles of Serie A's Bologna in 2019. His initial transfer fee, a modest sum of £5.4m, might have been a hint that the Italians didn't quite see a future Ballon d'Or winner in him. He then whisked his way over to Belgium, joining the ranks of Club Brugge for another reasonable £6.3m, and finally to Wolfsburg, for a slightly more impressive £12m before finding himself on loan at Rangers.
Not a former Celt and henceforth, no need for a lovingly crafted sonnet of his exploits on the hallowed turf of Parkhead, but I'd wager that such is the fleeting nature of football careers, the great Danes amongst us might enjoy the thrill of the occasional Old Firm verve before 2013.
Internationally, our right-wing raider represented Denmark in the 2024-2026 World Cup Qualifiers, making one start, and loitered around the peripheral 2024-2025 Nations League with six substitute appearances. A far-cry from household name status, but we'll give him time.
