Born in Argentina on the 24th of September 2000, Alexandro Bernabei is a reliable and determined defender who largely fulfills the role of left back for Internacional. Standing at a solid 5ft 6in (1.69m) and weighing 10st 3lb (65kg), his diminutive stature belies a robust and tenacious approach to the beautiful game.
In 2018, Bernabéi began his career at Lanus in the Primera División in Argentina. In his debut season of 2019 - 2020, he secured his place in the first team, making 13 appearances and scoring one goal in league matches. This promising start was followed by an impressive 24 first team appearances in the subsequent season. However, in the 2022 season, his participation was limited to a single appearance.
July 2022 marked a pivotal point in Bernabéi's career when he was transferred from Lanus to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for a fee of around £3.8 million. In the 2022 - 2023 season, he quickly established himself within this new environment, making 15 first team appearances and scoring one goal in league matches. Unfortunately, in the following season his appearances dropped to eight, prompting a transfer.
In March 2024, Bernabéi was loaned to Internacional in the Série A in Brazil from his parent club, Celtic. His performance in Brazil improved significantly with 23 appearances and three goals scored in league matches for the 2024 season. From a loan agreement to a full-time deal, Bernabei's move was eventually made permanent in January 2025, seeing him depart from Celtic for a transfer fee of £4.3 million.
In the season following his permanent move, he made an additional 23 first team appearances in the league and scored three goals, positioning himself as a regular feature in the Internacional team for the 2025 season. Demonstrating his versatility, he also competed in Copa Libertadores 2025 for Internacional, where he contributed one goal in his six starts, and participated in Copa do Brasil 2025 for Internacional with one start.
Looking back at Bernabéi's time at Celtic, it was a period filled with fluctuations and shifts, which were perhaps a reflection of the changes the Scottish Premiership experienced during that phase. Despite a promising first season, Bernabeí's second season at Celtic was less successful, which lead to his move to Brazil. However, his time at Celtic was significant in his career development, and ultimately set the stage for his future exploits at Internacional.
