Born in Switzerland on the 26th of February 1997, Albian Ajeti first came to prominence as a forward who primarily plays as a striker for Basel. He is 6 feet tall (1.83m) and weighs 12st 1lb (77kg) and is recognisable by his number 23 jersey. Interestingly, his journey with Basel started way back in January 2014.
In his debut season at Basel in 2013-2014, Ajeti managed to score one goal from three first team appearances. His performance stayed constant for the next two seasons, scoring another goal from making appearances four and five respectively. However, he managed to pick up his form in 2017-2018 when he scored 14 goals from 25 first team appearances. He retained this excellent form in 2018-2019 with a similar record. His time at Basel had more ups and downs, but in his current 2025-2026 season, he has scored 3 goals till now from 16 first team appearances.
Ajeti's career path took a slight deviation when he transferred for a fee of around £700k from Basel to Augsburg in the Bundesliga in Germany in January 2016. After a single successful season, he moved on loan to St. Gallen in the Super League in Switzerland in August 2016, where he made 36 first team appearances across two seasons and scored a total of 13 goals. Ajeti finally settled at St. Gallen after a £850k transfer from Augsburg in July 2017. His moments of brilliance mirrored his previous stints; 36 first team appearances yielded 13 impressive goals.
Ajeti soon made a swift return to Basel in a transfer costing Basel about £1.3m in October 2017. Fast-forward to August 2019, he was snapped up by none other than Premier League side West Ham United for a fee of approximately £8m. His season at the London club sadly failed to take off, with Ajeti making just nine first team appearances.
However, his career took a turn for the good when he transferred to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland in August 2020 for around £4.5m. Here, Ajeti finally regained his outstanding form, scoring six goals from 20 first team appearances in the 2020-2021 season. Unfortunately, his form declined slightly in the following season, managing only two goals from seven first team appearances.
His association with Celtic came to an end in 2022 when he was loaned to Sturm Graz in Austria. After a successful term, he was finally transferred from Celtic to Gaziantep in the Süper Lig in Turkey for a reasonable sum of £500k in September 2023. His journey came full circle when he finally transferred back to Basel in February 2024. By 2026, Ajeti has made significant progress, scoring three goals from 16 appearances.
An interesting fact is Ajeti's European participation; he has performed impressively in the 2025-2026 Champions League qualifiers for Basel with one start and one substitute appearance, as well as in the Europa League where he managed to score one goal in three starts and one appearance off the bench.
Albian Ajeti's career is a story of travels, transitions, and trials. His performance has seen crests and troughs, but his undeniable playing ability has remained a constant attribute.
