Born on 4 April 1986 in Scotland, Aiden McGeady hefted the mantle of a forward, primarily dominating as a left winger for Ayr United. At 1.8m (five foot ten) and tipping the scales at 73kg (11st 6lb), the number 10 has left a sturdy mark as a reliable force in football.
McGeady took roots in Celtic as a trainee in July 2002, blooming into a player worthy of his salt in subsequent years. From his debut season, 2003-2004, where he tenderly stepped onto the football ground, making four first team appearances and netting his maiden goal, to the consequent season where he increased his presence and arched four more balls into the goal, his journey with Celtic remains praiseworthy.
Over the years, he became an anchor in the team. His appearances rose and so did his goals; Five goals in 34 appearances in the 2006-2007 season and seven majestic finishes in 36 appearances in the 2007-2008 season, the lad was on a roll. As his years at Celtic rolled on, McGeady became a consistent performer with his figures soaring to 35 appearances in the 2009-2010 season, and tagging on seven goals to his tally.
Leaving a considerable void behind, in August 2010, McGeady transferred from Celtic to Spartak Moscow in Russia, for a whopping £9.5 million. Here, he donned the jersey with pride and made an impact with his consistency. His memorable stints included 17 appearances and five goals in the 2012-2013 season.
In a swift turn of events, McGeady transferred from Spartak Moscow to Everton in England, for a modest fee of around £2 million in January 2014. Numerous other transfers followed, including a stint with Sheffield Wednesday on loan, to Preston North End, and Sunderland, the transfer sum at this juncture dwindling to a mere £250k. Various loan arrangements would see our lad dart from team to team, notably making an appearance with Charlton Athletic before returning to Sunderland.
His journey of football later took him to Hibernian in the Premiership in Scotland, where in the season 2022-2023 he made a rather quaint number of appearances, but ensured his essence was felt. Eventually, in July 2023, McGeady transferred from Hibernian to Ayr United in the Championship in Scotland and carried his legacy forward, with positive performances.
