Well, where do we start with Mr. Adam Devine, our very own son of Scotland? Born on the quite unremarkable day of 25 March 2003, he quickly rose to mediocrity as a defender playing right back for Rangers. Not too shabby at 6ft (1.83m) tall and tipping the scales at 11st 4lb (72kg), kitted out in a number 44 jersey. I suppose they ran out of single digits or something more noticeable.
Initial introduction to professional football saw him join Rangers as a trainee in the Premiership in the long-gone days of July 2018. Ah, those were times—our boy becoming a gerbil on the endless wheel of Scottish football's never-ending churn of talent and mediocrity. He went on to make a whooping two first team appearances in his debut season (2021-2022) at Rangers - steady on.
By season 2022-2023, Devine somehow doubled his first team appearances to six. However, the current season, 2024-2025, Devine has carefully upheld football's version of 'social distancing', deciding not to show up on the pitch at all for Rangers.
In an exciting audition for "Pimp My Ride: Footballer Edition", Devine got itself a loan transfer from Rangers to Partick Thistle in March 2021, and then another loan to Brechin City. I'm guessing the people at Brechin lost a bet or something.
Like an unwanted Christmas present, Devine was then returned from Brechin City to Rangers upon completion of his loan in June 2021. Rangers were so pleased by this that they let him on the pitch an unprecedented six times in season 2022-2023. Generosity indeed.
In some kind of football version of musical chairs, Rangers then kindly transferred Devine to Motherwell on loan in February 2024. Rejoice Motherwell, your right-back problem was clearly sorted. He even managed to make ten whole appearances for Motherwell and scored a single, solitary, lonely goal that season. How proud Scotland must have been.
After that wee tour at Motherwell, Rangers, in an apparent fit of nostalgia and perhaps lack of other viable options, decided to welcome back Devine in June 2024. Upon his return, Devine, ever so consistent, has kept away from the limelight and is yet to soil his boots on the pitch in the current season at Rangers. I do hope he's not feeling too homesick.
