Victor Wanyama, a stalwart of the midfield, was born on 25 June 1991 in Kenya. He is a towering presence on the field, measuring at 1.84m (6ft) and weighing 87kg (13st 9lb). Wanyama currently graces the pitch for Dunfermline Athletic, donning the number 44 jersey, but has also proudly represented his nation, Kenya, on the international stage.
Before he found home in Scotland, his journey through football began with Beerschot AC in Belgium's Vierde Klasse back in July 2008. That debut season saw Wanyama make a solitary first team appearance, but over the next two seasons, his growing influence became clear - appearing in 15 and then 26 first team league matches respectively, even registering his name on the score sheet once in his final season with the club.
In July 2011, the allure of the beautiful game ushered him to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. A transfer fee of around £900k marked the commencement of a special period in his career. He quickly embedded himself into the heart of Celtic's midfield - making 29 appearances and scoring four goals in 2011-2012. His following season was even more remarkable - he played 32 matches and netted six times, truly earning his stripes amidst loyal Celtic supporters.
His brilliance caught the eye of Premier League scouts, and Wanyama made the move to Southampton in July 2013 for a hefty sum of around £13m. His time in England was valuable, contributing solid performances for both Southampton and later Tottenham Hotspur after a £11m transfer in July 2016.
In March 2020, Wanyama decided on a change of vista and joined CF Montreal in the USA, where he featured regularly on the team sheet over his five seasons with the club. He then had a short hiatus from the game before happily returning to his beloved Scotland.
In March 2025, the Kenyan Maestro linked up with Dunfermline Athletic in Scotland's Championship, an association currently in progress. As of the 2024-2025 season, Wanyama has already made four first team appearances for his new club.
Throughout his commendable career, notably around the vibrant streets of Glasgow, Wanyama has left a lasting impression, not solely for his bullish performances in the heart of midfield, but also his humble demeanor off the pitch. He - without doubt - ranks among Celtic's well-revered custodians of the game.
